Boise Hawks News Release

BOISE, ID - The bottom of the eighth inning seemed to have a little magic in the series as the Boise Hawks (Short-Season A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies) crossed around two runs in the eighth to take a 5-3 victory over the Hillsboro Hops (Short-Season A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks).

It all started in the bottom of the first when Michael Toglia hit an RBI-double down the left field line to bring across Aaron Schunk. Daniel Cope later bounced a ball up the middle but a fielding error by the Hillsboro shortstop sent Toglia around to score, and the Hawks had the lead at 2-0 after the first inning.

Luke Chevalier made his second start of the season and threw for five innings, only one hit allowed, one walk and two strikeouts on the night. Chevalier's ERA now sits at a 2.61, the fourth lowest on the Hawks pitching staff.

Hillsboro then struck back with three runs in the top of the sixth inning with an RBI-triple from Steven Leyton, an RBI-double for Jesus Marriaga, and then Kristian Robinson reaching on a fielding error at second base to bring home Marriaga. The Hops lead it 3-2 after their scoring train in that inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Tyler Plantier muscled his second home run of the season over the right field wall and tied up the ballgame at 3-3. Both of his home runs have come at Memorial Stadium and both over the right field wall.

Toglia delivered big in the bottom of the eighth inning. After Aaron Schunk lead it off with a single and advanced to second off a wild pitch, Toglia bounced him in with his second double of the night. After a sacrifice bunt from Daniel Cope that sent Toglia to third, Yorvis Torrealba chopped a grounder up the middle and scored Toglia to make it 5-3 Boise.

They would hold on to win after an impressive outing from left-handed pitcher Reagan Todd. He threw 1.2, giving up only one hit and struck out three Hops to secure the win and collect his second individual win on the season.

The Hawks will welcome the Vancouver Canadians for the first of a four-game series starting Monday at 7:15 p.m.
