Hillsboro Hops News Release
The Hillsboro Hops were defeated 5-3 by the Boise Hawks on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. After winning the first game of the series, Hillsboro dropped back-to-back close games. The Hops sent three pitchers to the mound over the first four frames. Tommy Henry (74th overall selection, 2019 draft) started the game and allowed two runs with only one being earned. Ryne Nelson out of the University of Oregon entered the game and pitched two shutout innings, continuing the strong start to his professional career. Nick Snyder was the final pitcher out of the piggy-back role and tossed a scoreless fourth inning.
Hawks starter, Luke Chevalier gave no leeway as he went on to hurl five scoreless inning. However, the Hops bounced back and took the lead while tagging Cameron Enck for three runs (two earned) in the top of the sixth. Steven Leyton started the damage with an RBI triple, and Jesus Marriaga responded with a double to tie the game. Marriaga then scored the go-ahead run due to a Bladimir Restituyo error at second-base.
The Hops lead would not last long after Tyler Plantier tied the game with a home run in the bottom of the seventh. The Colorado Rockies first-round pick Michael Toglia (23rd overall pick, 2019 draft) drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth with a double.
The Hops (27-17) will take on the Seattle Mariners Shortseason affiliate, Everett AquaSox over the next three days. Catch all the action on Rip City Radio 620 AM with the pregame show starting at 6:35 pm and first pitch at 7:05 pm.
