Boise Hawks News Release

PASCO, Wash. - Ben Alsup and two relievers combined on the eighth Tri-City shutout of the season, as the Dust Devils blanked the Boise Hawks, 2-0, at Gesa Stadium.

Tri-City is now just two shutouts off the NWL record of ten in a season, set by Boise in 1990 and Vancouver in 2002. The Hawks have now been shutout a NWL high six times this year.

The Dust Devils broke a scoreless duel in the seventh, as Ryan Casteel reached on a throwing error by Zeke DeVoss, scoring on a RBI triple by Taylor Featherston. With two outs, David Hernandez brought home Featherston with a double to make it 2-0.

Alsup went six innings, allowing just five hits - working out of jams in the first and third innings. The Hawks Brad Zapenas had a one-out double in the opening inning, but was thrown out at home trying to score on a Pin-Chieh Chen single, while Boise had runners at first and second in the third but left them stranded. Craig Bennigsen added two shutout innings and Rafael Suarez tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his fifth save.

The loss for the Hawks wasted a good outing by Willengton Cruz, who allowed just one hit in five innings of work - as Boise dropped their fifth-straight road game and their 14th road loss in 16 outings.

Game 2 of the series is tomorrow night, with Ben Wells meeting Chris Jensen at 8:15 p.m. (MT)

NOTES - Tri-City did not have a single in the game (two doubles and a triple)...it was the sixth-straight shutout win overall by the Dust Devils...
