Springfield Cardinals News Release

Mitchell Boggs and the Springfield Cardinals won their third straight game overall, beating the Tulsa Drillers 5-1 on Friday night at Drillers Stadium in Tulsa.

Boggs (3-3) not only pitched seven strong innings, but picked up two hits and three RBIs, helping the Cards win their fourth game in five tries on the current road trip.

Although he struggled with his control, walking five men, Boggs allowed just one run on two hits, earning his second win over the Drillers this year.

The offense gave Boggs an early lead, as Cody Haerther picked up a two-run single in the first, putting Springfield up 2-0.

In the second inning, Boggs took Tulsa starter Samuel Deduno (0-2) over the wall in left field, becoming the first Cards' pitcher to homer this year. Boggs' first professional hit came with Mike Ferris aboard, giving Springfield a 4-0 lead.

Tulsa scored their only run of the night in the third, as Boggs walked lead-off man Corey Wimberly. After two wild pitches advanced Wimblerly to third, Joe Gaetti lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, putting Tulsa on the board at 4-1.

The Cardinals got that run back in the fourth, as Juan Richardson scored on another Boggs hit, an RBI single to center field, making it 5-1.

After Boggs finished the seventh, Nick Webber came out of the bullpen to fire two scoreless innings, allowing just one base hit.

Colby Rasmus went 0-3 on Friday night, ending his team-best 12-game hitting streak.

Springfield improves to 18-20 with the win, now just 2 ½ games back of first-place Tulsa in the North Division. The Cards will send Cory Rauschenberger to the mound on Saturday night in the third game of the four-game set. Rauschenberger (3-2), who's won three straight decisions, will be opposed by Tulsa's Matt Daley (1-1). Game time on Saturday night from Tulsa is 7:05pm.
