Boeser, Hawks Dash Past Musketeers
April 4, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Brock Boeser recorded his third hat trick of the season Saturday, and the Waterloo Black Hawks upended the USHL Western Conference-leading Sioux City Musketeers, 4-1 at Young Arena.
Waterloo could not take control of a faceoff just outside the defensive blue line moments before Sioux City notched the first goal of the night 10:10 into the action. Sebastian Repo swam to the puck after it appeared Waterloo had won the draw; Cale Morris kicked aside Repo's shot, but Robert Carpenter pounced on the rebound to record the only goal during the opening 20 minutes.
The Black Hawks dominated the second, scoring three goals and outshooting the visitors 18-5. Boeser tied the game with a one-timer from the right hash mark at 6:08. Three minutes later, Morris stopped the Musketeer's best chance of the period, using his left pad to turn away a breakaway opportunity from Sioux City leading scorer Adam Johnson.
On a subsequent power play, Boeser struck again at 11:03. Quick puck movement between Ronnie Hein and Henrik Rommel eventually led to a pass which was zipped across the top of the crease, leaving Boeser with an open side. Hein added one more goal during the period, flipping a loose puck in the blue paint across the goal line after Ethan Spaxman's shot was knocked down but not controlled.
Boeser completed the hat trick, sending the puck into an open net from his own blue line with 42.7 seconds remaining in regulation.
Morris made 18 saves in the win as the Hawks outshot Sioux City 39-19.
The Hawks remain at home for the final two games of the season next Friday and Saturday. Both tilts are part of the Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup Series against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Dubuque Fighting Saints respectively.
