Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - Despite a number of regulars out of the lineup, the Sioux Falls Stampede appeared to be in full playoff mode on Saturday night against the Lincoln Stars, picking up the 7-0 win in front of 6,348 fans at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. With the win, the Herd improved to 32-21-5 overall, and 19-7-3 at home this season. Kieffer Bellows led the way with a hat trick while Stefanos Lekkas and Art Brey combined to earn the shutout with 21 saves. The Herd have just two games remaining in the regular season, next Friday at home vs Sioux City and at Fargo on Saturday.
A night after scoring five goals in the third period, and almost completing a miraculous comeback, the Herd picked up right where they left off on Saturday, scoring four goals in the first period and taking a 4-0 lead in the first. The first goal came 7:29 into the period when Parker Tuomie scored on the power play. Trey Bradley took the puck inside the right circle and sent a perfect pass across ice to Tuomie who was open one the back door and stopped to wrist a shot into the upper right hand corner of the net to give the Herd a 1-0 lead. Less than three minutes later Mikey Eyssimont continued his scoring tear as he took the puck behind the Lincoln net and snuck around on the short side, backhanding a shot past Stars goaltender Matt Hackett to give the Stampede a 2-0 advantage. It stayed that way until the 17:30 mark when Kieffer Bellows broke through on a 2-on-1 and wristed a shot from the right circle past the stick side of Hackett. Sioux Falls extended their lead with just 10 seconds left when Bellows scored again, his 32nd of the season. Lucas Buchta blasted a shot from the left point that was deflected by Bellows who stood in front of Hackett to give the Herd a 4-0 lead after one period. Sioux Falls outshot the Stars 15-4 in the period.
It was much of the same in the second as the Stampede kept up the same intensity and added to their lead. Sioux Falls led 5-0 at 7:49 when Trey Bradley took the puck down the left circle and took the puck behind his back, placing a perfect pass onto the stick of Collin Peters who lifted the shot into the back of the net past Lincoln goaltender Peyton Jones for his sixth goal of the season. The Stars would go on the power play later in the period, but it would be the Stampede who would cash in as Lucas Buchta tallied his sixth goal of the season to make it a 6-0 lead.
The Stampede wrapped up their big scoring night in the 3rd period when the teams leading goal scorer, Kieffer Bellows found the back of the net 2:48 into the period. It was the third hat trick of the season for the Edina, Minnesota native, who now has 33 goals on the season, one shy of the USHL season leader.
Sioux Falls outshot the Stars 33-21 on the night and went an impressive 5-for-5 on penalty kill opportunities .
