Bob Woods Uniform to be Retired at Home Opener

BILOXI, Miss. – President Bo McMurphy announced current Mississippi Sea Wolves coach and former player Bob Woods will have his uniform number eight retired, in a ceremony before the home opener against Jackson at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday. The announcement was made at the season ticket holders only party, and Woods was given a standing ovation at Grand Casino Biloxi, Islandview Ballroom.

The native of LeRoy, Saskatchewan was player / assistant coach with the Sea Wolves from 1998-2001. The defenseman / left wing played 209 games over three seasons, registering 60 goals, 116 assists, 176 points and 97 penalty minutes. His Mississippi playing career was highlighted by being a member of the East Coast Hockey League Kelly Cup Championship team in 1999. Woods scored the tying goal, late in the third period of Game 7 against the Richmond Renegades, sending the game into overtime. The Sea Wolves would go onto win the game and championship, 4-3 in double overtime.

Woods professional playing career spanned 13 seasons, including 10 in the East Coast Hockey League. A four-time ECHL All-Star defenseman, he retired as the ECHL's all-time games played leader at 599. Woods was named by The Hockey News to the All-time ECHL Second Team as a defenseman in 1997. He was also a member of the American Hockey League Calder Cup Champion, Hershey Bears in 1997.

In franchise history, only Kevin Evans, uniform number 24 has been retired.

The doors open on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. and it is recommended to get their early at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. An adult purchasing an individual game ticket at all Sea Wolves Sunday home games this season, will receive one FREE ticket for a child 12 and under.
