Springfield Jr. Blues News Release

The Springfield Jr. Blues beat the Southern Minnesota Express 5-3 to revenge a loss to the Express on Friday night.

Jon Gaffney was named First Star of the game for his opening goal and hard-nosed play. Steve Mohler, with a goal and an assist, was named Third Star. Matt Globke stepped up his play with a goal and two assists for the Blues.

"After Friday night's loss I had a talk with a few of the guys that were playing dissapointing hockey", says coach Chris Wyler. "They were challenged to play at the level that I know they are capable of. Each one of them played exceptional well tonight. In addition, Ales Silas played great in goal both nights. He's been working exceptionally hard in practice and showed me this weekend that he really wants more playing time".

Phil Cook started in goal Friday night but was pulled in the second period after the Express put four goals behind him. Sila came in and played well for the rest of the game, earning the starting nod for Saturday's game.

Cory Patterson and Darren Rowe also had goals for the Blues Saturday night. Matt Larke, Klemen Sodrzik, Alex Paine and Kyle Greco added assists.

In Friday's 6-3 loss, Mike Crowder(Weiss, Larke), Kyle Greco(Patterson, Larke) and Chris Gentile(Paine) scored in a game that saw the Blues behind all night. " We played horrible, looking like we just got off the bus", stated Wyler. "I expected a better start to the weekend, but the boys came back and played well on Saturday. We have pretty much dominated this team this year, even though the series standings doesn't show that".

The Blues travel to Texas next weekend to take on the Tornadoes in a two-game series. The Blues will then host Texas on December 7th and 8th back at the Nelson Center.
