BOARDMAN, OH. - After finding themselves in a 3-0 hole early in the second period of Friday's game at the Ice Zone in suburban Youngstown, the Traverse City North Stars battled back to knot the game with Mahoning Valley at 3-all near the midway point of the second session. But Stefan Salituro amassed a natural hat trick to close the game, the cap-clincher on an empty-netter in the waning seconds.

"We had some turnovers, and they cost us dearly," assessed Stars head coach/GM Anthony Palumbo. "I keep saying it, but you just can't gift-wrap chances like that at this level, because teams will make you pay for those mistakes."

Traverse City (9-7-4), which outshot the host Phantoms by a 31-25 margin, got goals from Nate Urbaniak (4:11), Joe Greener (9:45) and Matt Hughes (10:58) - with the Greener and Hughes tallies coming on the power play. Kyle Bonis, an Ontairo native signed before Friday's game, and Harrison Niemann set up the Urbaniak marker, Niemann and Hughes drew assists on Greener's fifth of the season, and the defensive duo of Jameson Raymond and Tyler Stephens were cited on Hughes' equalizer.

"Overall, it was a pretty good effort actually," Palumbo said. "There were stretches where we played very well. We'd like to combine that with taking better care of the puck and come out of here with some points."

Chris Paliafito made 19 saves for TC, while counterpart Jordan Tibbett had 28 stops for the Phantoms.

The teams will face off again on Saturday in Boardman. The live video feed is available via B2 Networks at the team's Web site, traversecitynorthstars.com.
