BRUNSWICK, Maine. - The U.S. National Under-18 Team received a goal from Danny Kristo (Eden Prairie, Minn.), but was defeated, 3-1, by Bowdoin College Saturday night at Dayton Arena.

"If we had played the entire game like we did in the third period there is a good chance the outcome would have been different," said Tim Taylor, assistant coach of the U.S. National Under-18 Team. "We didn't play our best early in the game, and that cost us."

After a scoreless first period, the Polar Bears scored twice in the second frame. Colin MacCormack tallied a goal just 58 seconds into the stanza, before Ryan Blossom added a power-play goal at 15:31.

Team USA cut into the lead midway through the third period when Kristo recorded his team-best eighth goal of the season. That was all the visitors could muster offensively, however.

The Polar Bears sealed the win late in the third period as Mike Westerman notched an empty-netter to clinch the victory.

Bowdoin's goaltending tandem of Paul DeCoster and Nick Smith combined to make 36 saves. DeCoster stopped all 15 shots he faced in 31 minutes of action, while Smith turned away 21 of the 22 shots he saw in 29 minutes between the pipes.

Joe Cannata (Wakefield, Mass.) made 20 saves for the U.S. National Under-18 Team.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team (8-10-1-1) travels to Waterville, Maine, on Sunday for a game against Colby College at 5:30 p.m. ET.
