Blues Acquire Nate Guenin In Exchange For Steve Wagner

ST. LOUIS (February 11, 2009) - St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the club has acquired defenseman Nate Guenin (GEH-nihn) from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Steve Wagner. Guenin will report to the Blues' American Hockey League affiliate, Peoria Rivermen.

Guenin, 27, has played in 41 games this season with the AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, recording five points (three goals, two assists) and 63 penalty minutes. Last season, the 6-2, 210-pound defenseman registered 14 assists along with 95 penalty minutes in 62 games with the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL.

The Sewickley, Pennsylvania native has played in 14 National Hockey League (NHL) games combined with Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, notching two assists and six penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the fourth round, 127th overall in the 2002 Entry Draft.

The Rivermen open up a two-game series on Friday at 7 p.m. with the San Antonio Rampage.
