Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - The BlueClaws swept a double-header from Hagerstown on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Park, winning 4-3 and 5-3, to take three of four in the series.
Lakewood (25-20) is now 5-2 this year against Hagerstown (16-29) and the BlueClaws have won 10 of their last 15 games.
Lakewood won the opener on a Daniel Brito walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh. It was Lakewood's third walk-off win of the season and the second of Brito's career.
Zach Warren, who got the last out of the seventh inning, was the winning pitcher. BlueClaws starter Will Stewart gave up three runs over 6.2 innings of work.
Lakewood took the lead in the first inning on RBI singles from Colby Fitch and Nick Maton before the Suns took their first lead on Jake Scudder's three-run home run in the fifth.
Jake Scheiner then tied the game with a solo homer, his sixth of the year, in the bottom of the fifth, setting the stage for Brito's heroics.
In game two, Jake Scheiner broke open a 1-1 game with a two-run triple in the bottom of the second to put the BlueClaws up 2-1. Rodolfo Duran added an RBI double in the third and the BlueClaws got an unearned run in the fourth.
Starter Luis Carrasco went three, allowing one run. Randy Alcantara gave up a two run home run in one inning of work, but Kyle Dohy got the next six outs, striking out three.
Addison Russ, who threw a 1-2-3 seventh, earned his league-leading ninth save of the year, lowering his ERA to 0.76.
Jhailyn Ortiz had two hits in each end of the double-header while Josh Stephen had two hits in the nightcap.
The BlueClaws head to Delmarva to open a five-game, four-day series against the Shorebirds on Friday night. BlueClaws LHP Kyle Young (1-0) starts the series opener against RHP Matthias Dietz (4-1) at 7:05 pm.
