Greenville Drive News Release
Asheville, NC - Despite taking another early lead, the Greenville Drive couldn't hold on and suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Asheville Tourists in Thursday night's series finale.
The teams traded runs over the first three innings. The Drive (11-34) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Marino Campana continued his scorching hot streak with an RBI double to score Frankie Rios, who was hit by a pitch.
Ryan Vilade tied the game at one with an RBI single in the bottom of the second for the Tourists (18-26).
The Drive retook the lead at 2-1 when Charlie Madden smacked a solo home run leading off the top of the third against Nick Kennedy, his first long ball of the season.
The home run did the Drive in over the final innings of the game, as Vilade struck for a go-ahead two-run homer off Jhonathan Diaz (1-4) in the sixth, and Bret Boswell added a solo shot in the seventh to extend the lead.
The Drive threatened in the ninth after a single by Ricardo Cubillan and a walk by Madden, but Asheville's Nate Harris finished off his second save of the year with a strikeout to end the game.
Braxton Lorenzini (1-0) retired four Greenville hitters in relief to pick up the win.
Madden homered and reached base three times for the Drive in defeat.
The Drive's road trip continues on Friday night as they begin a four-game road series against the Columbia Fireflies, a New York Mets affiliate. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Alex Scherff (0-3, 6.91) takes the mound for the Drive in the opener.
