BlueClaws Knock off Shorebirds, 3-2

Lakewood, NJ - Harold Martinez of the Lakewood BlueClaws hit a flare into shallow right field in the bottom of the 12th inning to defeat the Delmarva Shorebirds 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon at FirstEnergy Park.

The Shorebirds finish the road trip 2-4.

The scoring started in the first inning as Lakewood first baseman Kelly Dugan hit a home run over the left field wall.

Justin Dalles tied the game in the second by belting his third home run of the season well beyond the left field wall.

Lakewood regained the lead in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly to left field by Aaron Altherr.

Shorebirds starter Parker Bridwell tossed six strong innings and yielded five hits and two runs. Bridwell retired 10 of 11 batters between the end of the second and the end of the fifth inning.

In the seventh, the Shorebirds tied the game at 2-2. Nicky Delmonico picked his 30th RBI of the season on a line drive to left field to score Sammie Starr, who reached on a walk.

The BlueClaws won the game on a walk off hit by Harold Martinez in the 12th inning against David Baker.

Jesse Beal, who entered in the seventh, tossed three near perfect innings. He allowed just one hit, but faced the minimum.

The Shorebirds return to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Thursday, May 24 for a doubleheader with the first game beginning at 5:35pm.
