Gnats Double up Dogs 6-3 Wednesday

Savannah, GA - The Savannah Gnats defeated the Charleston RiverDogs 6-3 Wednesday night in the rubber game of the three-game series at Historic Grayson Stadium to move within two games of first place in the South Atlantic League Southern Division. The Gnats finished their seven-game home stand at 4-3.

The Gnats (28-17) took a 3-2 lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. With one out and the bases loaded, 3B Aderlin Rodriguez doubled to deep leftfield to tie the game. 1B Brian Harrison followed with a groundball doubleplay that brought home a run and produced a 3-2 Savannah lead.

Savannah tacked on a single run in the second inning and two more in the fourth to build a 6-2 advantage. DH Gilbert Gomez, in his first game in the leadoff spot for Savannah, drove home a run in both innings. He finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored and two driven home.

Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

The 'Dogs (30-15) picked up their final run in the top of the fifth against Domingo Tapia. Tapia finished six innings, yielding three runs, all earned, on seven hits. He walked two and struck out six to earn fourth win of the year to improve to 4-2. Reliever Jared West retired the final six batters of the game, striking out two to pick up his first save as a Gnat.

Charleston scored the game's first two runs in the top of the first inning on a two-run single by LF Ben Gamel to take a short-lived 2-0 lead.
