LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws (25-38) fell behind early and had no response for the Greensboro Grasshoppers (31-34) in the 4-1 loss Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Park. The loss marks the 19th at home, and the BlueClaws finish the first-half 15-19 at home.

The Grasshoppers jumped on the board with three runs in the second against Kevin Walter and the BlueClaws. Viosergy Rosa kicked off the action with a single and Matt Juengel worked a walk to put two on with one out.

Two batters later, Tony Caldwell plated two runs with a triple to the corner in right and gave Greensboro the 2-0 lead. Yeison Hernandez followed with an RBI single and upped the lead to 3-0 at the end of the second.

The 'Hoppers manufactured another run in the third against Walter. Anthony Gomez worked a walk and moved to third on a 4-6-3 double play. Mitch Walding booted a ground ball off the bat of Yordy Cabrera and Gomez scored to up the lead to 4-0.

Scott Lyman took the hill for the Grasshoppers and was outstanding in his 13th start of the season. The righty fooled the BlueClaws hitters for the first six innings and at one point had retired 14 hitters in a row.

The 'Claws finally got to the starter and notched a run in the seventh. Lyman retired Art Charles, gave up a single to Willie Carmona, and induced another fly out off the bat of Larry Greene, Jr.

Two batters later, it was Zach Taylor that connected for an RBI double, which cut the deficit to 4-1 and ended Lyman's night on the mound. Miguel Fermin was the first out of the 'pen and silenced Angelo Mora on three straight pitches to wrap up the inning and hold the three-run advantage.

Fermin pitched the eighth and turned it over in the ninth to the 'Hoppers all-star closer Frankie Reed. Reed made it interesting and allowed two base runners, but finished the ninth in scoreless fashion.

For the BlueClaws starter, Walter (0-2), he pitched the first five frames and allowed the four runs, three earned, on five hits. He walked three, hit a batter, and struck out one.

Chris Nichols took over in the sixth and maneuvered his way through three scoreless innings and allowed just two hits, a walk and added four punch-outs in his 2013 debut with Lakewood. Felix Santos pitched the ninth in scoreless fashion for Lakewood.

Lyman's (2-3) outing finished after six and two-thirds innings and he allowed the lone run on five hits; he did not walk a batter and struck out 10 in the win. Fermin kept the BlueClaws off the board in his inning and one-third outing and Reed locked down his sixth save of the season.
