Greenville Drive News Release
Playing five games in three days can be a daunting task. The Charleston RiverDogs (37-26) were not fazed, as they pounded out 17 hits en route to a 10-5 victory over the Greenville Drive (22-43) at Fluor Field on Wednesday. The Drive won three of the five games against Charleston during the series, and five of nine games this homestand.
Trailing 5-4 heading to the top of the seventh, the RiverDogs put up consecutive innings of three runs against Austin Maddox (0-5). Cito Culver led off the seventh with a solo homer to left field to tie the game, while an RBI double by Taylor Dugas and a Kelvin De Leon RBI single plated two more.
Culver did even more damage in the eighth, as he crushed a three-run shot, his second homer of the game, to extend the RiverDogs lead to 10-5.
Adam Smith (2-0) got the win in relief for Charleston, throwing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Dietrich Enns followed with two scoreless innings of his own with four punchouts.
Charleston struck first in the first after Drive starter Francellis Montas uncorked a wild pitch to score a run.
The Drive put up four runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead. After a Mario Martinez double, Aneury Tavarez lined a triple into the right field corner for an RBI. Boss Moanaroa followed with a single to right to plate the second run. Jordan Weems later laced a single to center to score a run, while Jose Vinicio capped the scoring with an RBI groundout.
The RiverDogs cut the lead to 4-3 in the fourth when Reymond Nunez singled to right to score a run and Jake Cave's double to center brought home another. A wild pitch by Rafael De Paula plated a runner for the Drive in the bottom half.
Peter O'Brien launched a solo homer to right-center in the fifth against Maddox. He had three hits for Charleston on the night. Culver had a pair of homers and four RBIs, while Cave, De Leon, Dugas and Nunez all had two hits apiece. Cody Koback, Moanaroa and Tavarez collected a pair of hits each for Greenville.
The Drive are done at Fluor Field for the first half. They will finish the half with a four-game series in Savannah against the Sand Gnats beginning on Thursday.
