Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

GREENSBORO, NC - Terrence Dayleg hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning Sunday, and the Grasshoppers beat the BlueClaws 8-7.

The homer off BlueClaws reliever Jordan Ellis (0-1) was just Dayleg's second in 181 professional at bats, and gave the Hoppers a late 8-6 lead.

The BlueClaws loaded the bases with the tying run on third in the ninth thanks in large part to four walks from Grasshopper relievers, but Jiwan James flied out to end the comeback attempt.

Sunday started well for the BlueClaws offense. Jiwan James drove in a run with a double in the second to put Lakewood on the board, and Jonathan Villar made it 2-0 in the fourth with an RBI double of his own.

The lead wouldn't last.

BlueClaws starter Matt Way allowed just one hit and was dominant up to the fifth inning. After striking out Kyle Jensen, Way struck out Carlos Paulino, but the Grasshoppers catcher reached first on a wild pitch. The Hoppers then racked up four hits, a walk and scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead.

Way pitched 6.1 strong innings for the BlueClaws giving up five hits, walking a batter and striking out nine.

Greensboro would add to their lead in the seventh. Chase Austin reached on Villar's second error of the day, Michael Pasek reached on a bunt attempt, Rand Smith brought a run home with a base hit, and Brent Weaver hit and RBI double with two outs to make it 5-2.

Lakewood answered back with one out in the eighth. Sebastian Valle singled, Domingo Santana drew a walk, and Adam Buschini doubled home a run. Villar then singled home Santana, and Jiwan James grounded out to short enabling Buschini to score from third to tie the score at five.

After an intentional walk to Leandro Castro, Jeremy Barnes singled off the glove of Hoppers pitcher Anillins Martinez (1-0) to bring home the go-ahead run. Castro was tagged out trying to take third, but Lakewood had a 6-5 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth when Dayleg would put Greensboro ahead for good.

ClawsNotes: Monday night at 7:00 pm Brody Colvin (0-3 13.06) will lookf for his first win against Edgar Olmos (1-0 4.26). Colvin was rocked for seven runs in just 1.1 innings in his last start.
