Hood's Four RBI Lead Suns To Victory

The Suns used an five-run third inning and Destin Hood's four RBIs to push their way past the Delmarva Shorebirds 8-6 on Sunday afternoon, evening the series at one game a piece.

The Shorebirds came out early in the third with an RBI double by shortstop Garabez Rosa off Trever Holder to score Steven Bumbry from second. Two batters later, second baseman Ty Kelly hit a single to score Rosa. The next batter Brian Conley lined a single to right to score Kelly from second. Delmarva held a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the third.

Hagerstown would respond strong against Shorebirds starter Matt Hobgood (0-1). Getting second and third, Francisco Soriano grounded out to second to score Sandy Leon from third. Sean Nicol followed with a single to left to score Eury Perez from third to cut the lead to 3-2. Steven Souza and Justin Bloxom would both single to load the bases with one out.

With Destin Hood up, Matt Hobgood threw two wild pitches. The first scored Nicol and the second scored Souza, giving Hagerstown a 4-3 lead. Hood singled to center to score Bloxom from third. Hagerstown's five-run inning put them up 5-3.

Hood continued to drive in runs in the 5th inning. With Souza on third and one out, Hood hit a sacrifice fly to center to score the runner for a 6-3 lead.

After the seventh-inning stretch, Hood came up with first and second with two out. He drove a double to right field to score Soriano and Souza for an 8-3 lead. Hood finished going 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

Delmarva fought back in the final two innings. In the eighth inning, Kelly hit a solo home run to right center off Kyle Morrison to cut the Suns lead to four.

In the ninth, Michael Ohlman doubled to center with two out off Morrison to score Michael Planeta from third for the Shorebirds. The next batter, Rosa doubled to left to bring in Ohlman to make the score 8-6 Hagerstown. Dean Weaver came in for Morrison and struck out T.J. Baxter to end the inning and earn the save.

Trevor Holder left after four inning allowing three runs, just two earned, and striking out three. Glenn Gibson (2-1) earned the win after two scoreless innings of relief of Holder with three strikeouts. Morrison got a hold with 2.2 innings pitched, allowing three runs.

Hobgood got the loss after five innings pitched, allowing six runs. Nathan Moreau came in relief and pitched three innings, allowing two runs and striking out six.

The Suns improve to 9-9 and even the series with the Shorebirds, who fall to 10-8. Game three of the series will be played on Monday at 6:35. Gates to Municipal Stadium will open at 5:35.
