Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The game started out great for the Lakewood BlueClaws as they jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but the West Virginia Power got the bats going and just didn't stop. In the end, the Power ended up with 10 runs on 13 hits and got themselves a 10-5 win in the first game of the 4 game series. Lakewood committed 3 very costly errors in the game as well. West Virginia has now won 6 of the last 7 meetings between the 2 teams to take a 6-5 lead in the season series.

The loss went to starter Garett Claypool who falls to 3-7 on the year. For the All-Star Claypool, it is his 4th consecutive loss as he allowed 7 runs/6 earned on 10 hits with 6 strikeouts in 5 1/3rd innings pitched. West Virginia's starter Tyler Waldron earned the win to move to 7-6 on the year. Waldron allowed 4 runs in the 2nd inning, but was fantastic from there finishing with just the 4 runs on only 3 hits and a walk in 6 innings pitched. Brooks Pounders pitched the final 3 innings and earned his 2nd save of the year.

Offensively, Lakewood was limited to just 5 hits, and Steve Singleton as the only BlueClaw with more than 1 hit. Singleton was 2-4, and hit his first home run as a BlueClaw with a solo shot in the 9th inning. Cameron Rupp and Miguel Alvarez each doubled, and Edgar Duran had a 2 RBI triple. Four of Lakewood's five hits were for extra bases.

Friday night Lakewood will try to even up the series at one game each as they will send out another All-Star RHP in Lisalberto Bonilla. Bonilla is 2-3 with a 2.06 ERA. West Virginia will counter with a good lefty in Colton Cain who is 5-7 with a 3.13 ERA. First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm on Sunday.
