Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Lakewood BlueClaws have been dominant all season against the Hagerstown Suns and the series opener on Tuesday was no different. Jesus Sanchez game the BlueClaws a sparkling performance on the mound in an 8-0 win.
Sanchez (10-6), the first BlueClaws pitcher to reach ten wins, went seven innings, giving up just five hits and struck out three without allowing a run. This is his fourth win against the Suns this season. Ryan Bergh worked a shaky but clean eighth inning and Santo Hernandez worked the ninth in a non-save situation.
The BlueClaws (28-27) took the lead in the fourth inning with a pair of runs. In the inning, with one out, newcomer Brian Gump walked as did Jeremy Hamilton and with two on, Vladimir De Los Santos hit a sun-aided double to right, misplayed by Robert Jacobsen and both runs scored.
The BlueClaws added to their lead in the very next inning with one more run as Antony Gose singled, stole his 70th base and scored on a sacrifice fly by Travis d'Arnaud. Gose is the first player in all of baseball, Major and Minor Leagues to reach that number.
In the top of the eighth, Harold Garcia knocked in Vladimir De Los Santos from second for their fourth run of the game. With two outs, d'Arnaud added a two-run single for a total of 3 RBIs on the day for a commanding 6-0 lead.
The BlueClaws added another two runs in the ninth.
For the Suns (18-36), starter Juan Jaime (2-1) went just four innings in his first loss of the year, he allowed two runs. The Suns bullpen then combined for the remaining five innings and six runs.
In 16 games this season the BlueClaws have won 12 times against the Suns this season. After being shutout for the third time this season and twice in one week last week, the BlueClaws tossed their eighth shutout of the season.
The BlueClaws and Suns will resume their three-game series on Wednesday as they play game two at 7:05 pm. The BlueClaws will look to Justin De Fratus (5-6), who has gone at least six innings in his last six starts and the Suns will put Marcos Frias (8-4) on the mound.
