Hickory Crawdads News Release
HICKORY, N.C. - The Lexington Legends came from behind with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to claim a come-from-behind 3-2 win against the Hickory Crawdads before 4,304 fans at Applebee's Park on Tuesday night.
The Crawdads (26-31, 59-67) opened the game's scoring with a run in the top of the second inning against LHP Brad Dydalewicz. RF Aja Barto, making his first start for the Crawdads, grounded the first pitch of his at-bat through the left side of the infield for a one-out single. Barto then took second base on a wild pitch, before scoring later in the frame on a two-out RBI triple hit by DH Mike Hollander, putting Hickory ahead, 1-0.
Back-to-back singles by the Legends (23-34, 59-68) began the bottom of the third and put runners at the corners with no one out. RHP Wilfredo Boscan struck out LF Eric Suttle for the first out of the inning, but was then called on a balk during the at-bat of SS Brandon Wikoff, scoring the runner, RF Russell Dixon, from third to tie the game, 1-1.
Boscan kept dealing through the seventh inning, keeping it tied at 1-1 before the Crawdads moved back in front with a tally in the top of the eighth. 1B Jared Bolden singled and C Vinny DiFazio drew a walk to put runners on first and second with one out. LF Cristian Santana then bounced into a fielder's choice to second base, on which DiFazio was retired and Bolden was able to race home all the way from second base, making it 2-1.
However, Lexington came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth against RHP Corey Ragsdale (1-1) and RHP Fabio Castillo. Consecutive two-out RBI singles by C Federico Hernandez (off Ragsdale) and 1B Michael Diaz (off Castillo) accounted for the come back, putting Lexington in the 3-2 lead.
The Legends then brought former Crawdads closer RHP Matt Nevarez, who was traded by Texas to Houston for C Ivan Rodriguez on Aug. 19, in to pitch the top of the ninth inning. Nevarez logged the save against Hickory with a one-two-three inning, concluding the 3-2 win for the Legends. Ragsdale was tagged with the loss, while reliever RHP Henry Villar (3-4) registered the win for Lexington.
