Hickory Crawdads News Release
HICKORY, N.C. - The Lakewood BlueClaws came back after an early deficit to win, 7-4, against the Hickory Crawdads before 1,580 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Saturday night. For the second time in the four-game series, RHP Mark Hamburger struck out a batter and LF Eric Fry got a hit in the same game, to give everyone in attendance a free Pepsi as part of the Hamburger and Fry Complete Your Meal promotion at the ballpark this weekend.
Hickory (11-12) struck for two runs quickly in the first inning to take the early lead. 3B Jake Kaase started the rally against Lakewood RHP Jason Knapp (2-2) with a one-out triple, and was followed by and RBI single by LF Eric Fry for the game's first run. Fry advanced to third on a basehit by RF Mike Bianucci, before scoring on a sacrifice fly hit by 2B Erik Morrison to put the Crawdads ahead, 2-0, through one. Bianucci added to the lead with his fifth homer of the season in the third inning, a solo shot that made it, 3-0.
However, Lakewood (13-9) began to battle back with a pair of runs in the fifth inning off starter RHP Wilmer Font, who earned the no-decision and exited the game after the fifth frame. RHP Fabio Castillo (0-1) took over in the sixth and allowed three runs to score, as the BlueClaws took the 5-3 lead.
The Crawdads came right back in the sixth inning with a run on a 1B Clark Murphy sacrifice fly to foul ground in left field, which scored Morrison from third, but Lakewood struck for two more in the eighth inning against RHP Ryan Schlecht to account for the 7-4 final. Hamburger retired the final batter in the eighth inning, before dealing a scoreless ninth, when he recorded the strikeout to complete everyone's meal with the free Pepsi. Lakewood RHP BJ Rosenberg earned his third save of the season, navigating through the eighth and ninth in scoreless fashion to seal the Lakewood win.
