LAKEWOOD, NJ - Thad Lowry threw six shutout innings and Kannapolis used a five-run third inning to top the BlueClaws 8-0 on Sunday afternoon at FirstEnergy Park.

Lowry, who made 17 starts with the Intimidators last year, scattered three hits and added three strikeouts to earn his first win of the year (1-0). Ranfi Casimiro (0-1) took the loss, allowing six runs (five in the third) over five innings.

Kannapolis got on the board in the 2nd inning on a SAC fly by Brett Austin. In the third inning, Christian Stringer's RBI single made it 2-0 before Louis Lechich added a 2-run single and Nolan Early added a 2-run double for the Intimidators.

BlueClaws reliever Jason Zgardowski didn't allow a run in his first three innings of relief but gave up a two-run triple to Michael Suiter in the top of the 9th inning for the final margin.

The BlueClaws were blanked for the first time in 2015 after getting shutout 14 times last year.

Cord Sandberg and Tim Zier each had two hits for Lakewood.

The BlueClaws open a three-game series with Greensboro at FirstEnergy Park on Monday night. RHP Chris Oliver (--) opposes LHP Ben Holmes in the series opener at 6:35 pm.
