Biloxi Shuckers News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Blue Wahoos (25-21) walked off the Biloxi Shuckers (23-26) 7-6 for the third-straight night and fourth time in six games on Sunday evening at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
Biloxi entered the ninth inning with a 6-4 lead over the Blue Wahoos. After Troy Johnston reached on a fielding error, RHP Harold Chirino (L, 1-1, BS, 2) proceeded to walk Griffin Conine and then hit the next four batters to plate the winning three runs.
The Shuckers had led for most of the contest after jumping out to an early 3-0 lead. After Gabe Holt reached on an infield single with two outs in the second inning, Sal Frelick clubbed his first Double-A home run over the left-field wall. Jakson Reetz would score on a Cam Devanney sacrifice fly in the third to extend the Biloxi lead to 3-0.
Shuckers' LHP Nick Bennett retired the first eight batters to start the game before yielding a two-out walk to J.D. Orr in the third inning. Orr advanced to second on a single by José Devers and raced around from second base to score on a ball four wild pitch to cut the lead to 3-1 after three innings.
Felix Valerio answered with a two-run home run in the fourth inning to erase the Blue Wahoos' run and lead 5-1. Biloxi had the bases loaded for the third time in the game after Brent Diaz was struck by a pitch in the fifth inning. Holt was the next batter, and he came through with a bloop single down the left-field line. Biloxi held their largest lead, 6-1, at the halfway point of the contest.
Pensacola would score six unanswered runs to end the game, starting with a run in the fifth on a fielding error, a Luis Aviles Jr. RBI single in the seventh, and an RBI groundout by Orr in the eighth inning. RHP Dylan Bice (W, 1-0) fired a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his first win of the season.
After an off-day tomorrow, the Shuckers return home to MGM Park to open a six-game series against the Tennessee Smokies on Tuesday. Shuckers' RHP Justin Bullock (0-1, 8.31) goes opposite of RHP Chris Clarke (2-2, 6.35) for the Smokies. First pitch is set for 6:35 PM and the game can be seen on MiLB.TV and heard locally on WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9 or online here.
