Knoxville Smokies News Release

Kodak, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies (29-22) clinched a series win over the Birmingham Barons (19-32) with a 3-2 walk-off victory in extras Sunday afternoon at Smokies Stadium in the series finale.

Christian Donahue was the hero of the day for the Smokies, as he laced a one-out single to right in the bottom of the 12th inning that brought in Cam Balego as the winning run. The walk-off hit against Sam Peralta (L, 1-3) was the Smokies' first of the season, and the 12-inning game was also their longest contest of 2022.

Tennessee rallied for a run in the bottom of the eleventh after the Barons had taken the lead with an unearned run in the top of the frame. Jake Slaughter drove in the tying run with a sacrifice fly, his fourth RBI as a Smokie, to send the game to the 12th.

Nicholas Padilla (W, 1-0) pitched the entirety of the extra innings for Tennessee and was terrific in relief, earning his first win of the year. Over three innings of work, Padilla did not allow an earned run and surrendered just one hit and no walks.

The Smokies will start a 12-game road trip and six-game series with the Biloxi Shuckers Tuesday night at MGM Park in Biloxi, Mississippi. First pitch is set for 7:35 p.m. ET when the Smokies send RHP Chris Clarke (2-2, 6.35) to the mound. Fans can listen to the action on 99.1 The Sports Animal or by visiting https://www.milb.com/tennessee/fans/audio-listen-live.

Smokies Stadium will host Hope at Bat Night and Henry Rowengartner Night on their next homestand, starting June 21. For tickets, fans can call the box office at (865) 286-2300 or visit smokiesbaseball.com.
