
Blue Rocks Topple Mudcats

ZEBULON, NC - The Wilmington Blue Rocks (2-3) scored three early runs, and held on to beat the Carolina Mudcats (3-2) 3-2 in front of 1,211 on Tuesday Night at Five County Stadium.
Blue Rocks' starter Sugar Ray Marimon (1-0) held the Mudcats to one run over 5.2 innings despite allowing six hits. Leondy Perez pitched the final three frames to notch his first save.
Mudcats' hurler Danny Salazar (0-1), on a limited pitch count, tossed three and a third innings. The right-hander allowed three runs on four hits and three walks.
Entering the game with one out in the fourth, reliever Brett Brach finished the game for the Mudcats by holding Wilmington off the scoreboard. Brach allowed two hits and walked one batter.
Wilmington used clutch hitting to build the early advantage. Brian Fletcher doubled in a run with two outs in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. In the second, Luis Peterson drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly in the second and a two-out single in the fourth.
The Mudcats received a home run from Jesus Aguilar in the fourth and a run-scoring double by Tyler Cannon in the ninth to round out the scoring.
Justin Toole paced the Mudcats offense with three hits.
The Mudcats finish their series with the Wilmington Blue Rocks at Five County Stadium on Wednesday, April 11, at 7:15 p.m. RH Clayton Cook (1-0, 1.80) will start against RH Tyler Sample (0-1, 5.79) for the Blue Rocks.
