Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD - With the Keys trailing 6-5 with two outs in the fifth inning, Bobby Stevens came through in a big way yet again. Having runners on second and third base and facing a full count, Stevens drove a pitch to right field, scoring both runners to put the Keys on top 7-6.

The bullpen combination of Rick Zagone, Clay Schrader, and David Walters pitched four scoreless innings to preserve the lead to deliver the Keys their third straight win as they move to 3-1 on the year. Winston-Salem drops to 1-3.

For Stevens, he has now hit eight RBI's in three games and is 5-for-10 on the year.

Both starting pitchers Nate Moreau for Frederick and Ryan Buch for Winston-Salem did not last past the third inning as they allowed a combined 10 runs on their watch.

For Frederick, Zagone - who gave up two hits in 3.1 innings - grabbed the win and Walters was credited with the save.

The Keys had raced out to a 5-2 lead in the second inning thanks in large part to a two-RBI triple by Ronnie Welty - his second of the night.

The lead wouldn't last long as Winston-Salem put three runs on the board their very next time to the plate to even the score at 5-5.

A blast from Dash first baseman Dan Black in the next inning, which cleared all three tiers of fencing, gave his team a 6-5 lead.

Then, with two runners in scoring position, it took Stevens' clutch two-RBI single to put the Keys back on top. It was a lead the Keys would not relinquish.

The Keys look to take the three-game series from the Dash tomorrow night at 7:00 PM. Coverage starts at 6:40 PM on 1450 AM The Source and online at wthu.com.
