Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

The Wilmington Blue Rocks (29-35) were defeated by the Aberdeen IronBirds (32-32) in ten innings by a final score of 6-5 on Thursday, June 22 at Frawley Stadium. The five-game series is now tied up at one game apiece after Wednesday's doubleheader got rained out.

The IronBirds struck first in this one, tacking on one run in the top of the first. After recording the first two outs of the inning with ease, starting pitcher Andry Lara couldn't escape the inning unscathed, allowing an RBI single to right off the bat of Frederick Bencosme which scored Jackson Holliday.

Wilmington struck back thunderously in the bottom of the second, when Nationals No. 5 ranked prospect Brady House went deep off the batter's eye in dead center field to knot up the game at one run apiece. The home run marked House's first with the Blue Rocks - the 20-year-old recorded two hits and three RBI overall on the night.

The Rocks were able to extend their lead in the bottom of the fifth, plating three runs in the inning. Kicking things off was House once again, singling to center to score Jeter Downs from second. In the very next at-bat, Will Frizzell knocked in both House and Jared McKenzie on a double sent to the left-centerfield gap to make it 4-1.

Aberdeen began chipping away in the top of the sixth. Bencosme struck again with an RBI double to score Dylan Beavers, followed by an RBI single by Jacob Teter to score Bencosme and cut the deficit to one.

Then, in the top of the eighth, the IronBirds were able to tie up the game at four thanks to another RBI single by Teter. Their comeback efforts would not halt there, as Aberdeen scored two more runs in the top of the tenth inning to take a 6-4 lead. House tallied an RBI groundout in the bottom half of the inning, but the IronBirds were able to secure the 6-5 victory.

With his two hits and three RBI, Brady House led the Blue Rocks' lineup. Lara strung together a solid start, tossing five innings, allowing four hits, one run, and one walk while striking out three.

The Blue Rocks will look to rebound in game three of the series on Friday, June 23 at 6:35 p.m.
