Blue Jackets Sign Bodnarchuk to One-Year, Two-Way Contract

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk to a one-year, two-way contract (NHL/AHL), club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.

Bodnarchuk, who turns 27 on July 11, has registered 30 goals and 105 assists for 135 points with 469 penalty minutes and a +63 plus/minus rating in 473 career American Hockey League games with the Providence Bruins and Manchester Monarchs. He also collected two penalty minutes in five NHL games with Boston during the 2009-10 season. In 2014-15, he tallied 5-20-25, 84 penalty minutes and was +12 in 61 games with Manchester. He added 0-6-6 and 14 penalty minutes in 19 playoff games to help the Monarchs win the Calder Cup championship.

Bodnarchuk was selected by the Bruins in the fifth round, 128th overall, in the 2006 NHL Draft and spent his first four professional seasons in the Bruins organization. He made his NHL debut with Boston on April 3, 2010 in a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs and collected 12-46-58 and 219 penalty minutes in 270 games with the AHL's Providence Bruins from 2008-12.

The Drumheller, Alberta native signed a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Kings on July 6, 2012 and spent the past three seasons with Manchester, where he posted three-straight 20-point seasons. In 2013-14, he set career highs in goals, assists and points with 8-24-32 in 73 games, leading all club defensemen in points and leading the AHL in plus/minus rating at +43. Prior to embarking on his pro career, Bodnarchuk played three seasons with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Halifax Mooseheads from 2005-08. He registered 32-91-123 and 321 penalty minutes in 196 career QMJHL games. He earned QMJHL All-Rookie Team honors in 2005-06 after notching 6-17-23 and 136 penalty minutes in 68 outings.
