Blue Jackets Sign Sifers to Two-Year, Two-Way Contract

COLUMBUS, OHIO --- The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Jaime Sifers to a two-year, two-way NHL/AHL contract, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.

Sifers, 32, has collected 24 goals and 86 assists for 110 points with 387 penalty minutes and a +17 plus/minus rating in 403 career American Hockey League games with the Springfield Falcons, Chicago Wolves, Houston Aeros and Toronto Marlies. He has also appeared in 37 career NHL games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Minnesota Wild, collecting 0-2-2 and 24 penalty minutes from 2008-10.

The Stratford, Connecticut native posted 3-19-22 with 82 penalty minutes and a +1 plus/minus rating in 76 games with Springfield during the 2014-15 campaign. He led the club in games played, finished third in penalty minutes and ranked second among defensemen in assists and points.

Prior to joining the Falcons in 2014-15, Sifers spent the previous three seasons with the Mannheim Eagles of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), Germany's top professional league, recording 9-54-63 and 185 penalty minutes in 154 games. He tallied 3-21-24, 62 penalty minutes and was +10 in 50 games in 2013-14. Originally signed by Toronto as a free agent, Sifers served as the team captain during his final three years at the University of Vermont. He netted 15-55-70 with 276 penalty minutes in 143 career games at Vermont from 2002-06.
