Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
(Waldorf MD., May 14, 2015)---Southern Maryland came into the night having won seven straight, and three series in a row.
Seeking their eighth win in a row, the Blue Crabs got a Steller pitching performance from RHP Jake Hale, who went nine innings, giving up just five hits, while striking out eight. RHP Sean Gallagher had a great pitching performance as well for Sugar Land, going seven innings, allowing five hits, and striking out six.
Southern Maryland had their chances to score when they put two runners on in the first, and two on in the sixth, but they were unable to get anything across. In the top of the 10th inning, Denny Almonte, and Travis Scott both singled. With runners at first and third, Patrick Palmeiro drove in Almonte with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0. Two batters later Kevin Russo would loop a double that skipped right by the diving Fred Lewis in right allowing Scott to score from second to make it 2-0.
In the bottom of the tenth, the Zach Wilson would line a single to center to start. The next batter Cyle Hankerd would hit a game tying homer to left centerfield to tie the game at 2-2. Two batters later Daryle Ward would single to right to put a runner at first. Jamar Walton would come on to pinch run for Ward, and after a pitching change by the Skeeters, Cory VanAllen would come into the game and walk Lewis to put runners at first and second. Casey Stevenson would walk to the plate and hit a line drive single to center to score Walton from second and give the Blue Crabs their second walk off win of the 2015 season.
Zach Wilson went 3-5 in the game, while the first six hitters in the Blue Crabs order had a hit each. Orlando Santos picked up his first win of the season, going a third of an inning out of the bullpen.
