Bluefish Win Ninth Game In Last Fifteen Overall

(Bridgeport, CT) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (9-8) defeated the Long Island Ducks (10-9) 7-3 at Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip, New York on Wednesday night, to even up their three game series against their Liberty Division foes.
Ildemaro Vargas led off the top half of the third inning of a scoreless game with a single, and advanced to second with his team leading sixth stolen base of the season. With one out, Sean Burroughs drove home Vargas with the first run of the game on an RBI single to left field. The 'Fish scored again in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single to center field by Luis Rodriguez, scoring Ryan Babineau who was aboard with a leadoff walk. Both runs were charged to Ducks Starting Pitcher Ian Marshall, who picked up a no decision after pitching five innings allowing two runs on two hits, walking two, and striking out two, throwing two wild pitches. Long Island tied the game at two in the bottom half of the fourth inning on a run-scoring single by Jose Morales and a bases loaded walk by Dan Lyons.
The 'Fish regained the lead in the top half of the sixth inning, scoring two runs, highlighted by an RBI single to leftfield by Rodriguez, scoring John Alonso, and a bases-loaded walk by Sean Burroughs, plating Ryan Babineau. Bridgeport added to the lead in the top half of the seventh inning, scoring two more runs on an RBI double by Alonso that brought home Andres Rodriguez, and an RBI single to centerfield off the bat of James Simmons, scoring Alonso to make it 6-2 Bridgeport. Babineau scored in the top of the ninth inning on a passed ball to make it 7-3 'Fish. Starting Pitcher Scott Maine (1-1) picked up his first victory of the season, tossing five innings, allowing six hits and two runs, striking out two. Nick Struck (1-1) suffered the loss in relief for Long Island. Burroughs and Rodriguez each had three hits for Bridgeport.
