WALDORF, Md. - The Sugar Land Skeeters dropped their seventh game in their last eight contests with a 3-2 loss to Southern Maryland in the series finale against the Blue Crabs. The loss drops the Skeeters to 9-12 while the Blue Crabs increased their Freedom Division leading record to 13-7.

Both starters turned in stellar performances to start the game as both pitched into the seventh without allowing a run. Sugar Land starter Sean Gallagher allowed just five hits and two walks while striking out six in seven innings of work. Jake Hale, Southern Maryland's starter, matched Gallagher pitch-for-pitch going 9.0 innings of shutout baseball with five hits one walk and eight punch outs.

The Skeeters took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the tenth off reliever Justin Berg. Denny Almonte singled to center to open the frame. On a hit-and-run attempt, Travis Scott knocked a bloop single just over the head of second baseman, Casey Stevenson, allowing Almonte to go first-to-third with no outs. Patrick Palmeiro continued his hot-streak with a sac fly to center, pushing across what appeared to be the go-ahead run. After a second-consecutive flyout to center, Scott swiped second for his first stolen base of the season and came in to score on a Kevin Russo double to right, staking the Skeeters what appeared to be an insurmountable 2-0 lead with the way Sugar Land was pitching.

In the bottom of the extra frame, Zack Wilson poked a single back up the middle before Cyle Hankerd hit his third home run of the series, a wall-scraper into the left field bleachers, knotting up the game. After an infield popup, Daryle Ward singled into right to chase Sugar Land reliever John Lujan from the game. Cory VanAllen issued a walk to Fred Lewis, moving the tying run into scoring position. Stevenson singled into center, allowing Jamar Walton who came in to run for Ward, to score and give the Blue Crabs a walk-off victory.
