Blue Crabs Score Early and Never Look Back to Win Sixth Straight

(Sugar Land TX)---A night after scoring in spread out style, Southern Maryland scored four runs in the top of the second and cruised to their sixth straight victory, winning 4-1.

The Blue Crabs got to Sugar Land starter Derek Blacksher who went just 2.2 innings, allowing four runs, on six hits. Daryle Ward led things off with a single. Three batters later, Casey Frawley reached base on an error by the third baseman Patrick Palmeiro to put runners at the corners. Antone DeJesus who came into the game hitting .154 with runners in scoring position banged out a single to score Daryle Ward to make it 1-0. The next batter Renny Osuna singled to score Casey Frawley. After an Osuna stolen base to put runners at first and second, Zach Wilson would single to score DeJesus, and Osuna who would score after a throwing error by the left fielder Denny Almonte to make it 4-0.

In the bottom of the ninth, Beamer Weems homered off Wade Korpi, but that was the only run the Skeeters pushed across on the evening as Korpi picked up his first save of the season.

RHP Jon Leicester who was making his second start in his Atlantic League career, went six innings, allowing five hits, striking out five and walking one to put up his first win of the season. Meanwhile Zach Wilson, and Daryle Ward each had two hits apiece. Blue Crabs Manager Stan Cliburn is now two wins away from 1,500 for his career.

Game three of this seven game series is set for tomorrow night at 7:05. RHP Brian Baker (2-1, 2.85) will start for Southern Maryland, while RHP Shane Loux (0-2, 3.81) will throw for Sugar Land.
