Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, Conn. - May 29, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish announced today that they have acquired Chris Garcia in a trade with Lancaster of the Atlantic League for future considerations. Garcia began the 2015 season with the Lancaster Barnstormers, where he has appeared in 6 games.
"Chris has experience in both independent as well as affiliated ball, which makes him a great asset to this team," says Bluefish Manager Ricky VanAsselberg. "We're excited to see the contribution he will make this season."
The outfielder's last professional appearance before this season came in 2012 with Lynchburg of the Carolina League, the High-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. There, Garcia played in 125 games, collecting a .285 batting average with 59 RBI, 56 runs scored and 11 home runs.
The 27-year-old made his professional debut in 2007 after being drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 15th round of the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft. He spent two seasons within the Angels organization before joining the independent ranks in 2009 with Shreveport-Bossier of the American Association. He also played for New Jersey of the Can-Am League, and spent time within the Atlanta Braves organization from 2011 to 2012, reaching the High-A level. In 488 career minor league games, Garcia owns a .329 batting average with 320 RBI, and 291 runs scored, and 50 home runs.
