
Blue Crabs Drop a Tough One in Game Two

Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
Bridgewater, NJ--- After a one sided ballgame last night, the Patriots just squeak by the Blue Crabs by the final of 4-3 in game two of the three game series.
Southern Maryland scored first in the top of the second. Jake Opitz would score on a Jamar Walton RBI Groundout. Somerset would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth. Nate Spears scored on a James Skeleton sacrifice fly to tie it at 1-1.
In the top of the seventh, the Blue Crabs would retake the lead on a Craig Maddox RBI double scoring Anthony Vega to make it 2-1. In the bottom of the seventh, Somerset would take the lead for the first time in the game. Robert Andino would lead things off with a single, and two batters later Greg Hopkins would drive a homer over the wall to make it 3-2.
Southern Maryland tied the game in the top of the eighth on a Zach Wilson solo homerun to make 3-3. In the bottom of the eighth though, Somerset would retake the lead. After Cody Eppley retired the first two hitters, Nate Spears lashed a double to left center, and Greg Hopkins, who homered earlier in the night, singled to score Nate to make it 4-3. Jon Hunton would set the Blue Crabs down in the top of the ninth to give the Patriots the victory.
Greg Hopkins went 3-4 with three runs driven in, while Zach Wilson homered, and Craig Maddox went 2-4 with an RBI. Both starting pitchers did not factor in the decision.
Game three of the series tomorrow evening at 5:05 P.M. LHP Brian Burres (3-6, 4.93) will start for Southern Maryland, and LHP Matt Zielinski (6-1, 2.43) will throw for Somerset.
