SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters dropped their third-straight contest to the Lancaster Barnstormers, falling 5-1 in front of 5,725 fans at Constellation Field on a beautiful Saturday night at the ballpark. The Sugar Land pitching staff surrendered a trio of walks and hit three batters in the loss, leading to a pair of runs for the Barnstormers.

Infielder Delwyn Young improved his hitting streak to 15-games with a single in the bottom of the first. The streak is the longest by a Sugar Land player this season.

Lancaster tagged Sugar Land starting pitcher, Matt Wright, for four runs in the top of the first. Zach Collier was hit by Wright's 0-1 offering and Brian Cavazos-Galvez drew an eight-pitch walk to put the first two runners aboard for the Barnstormers. Following a strikeout of Kevin Rivers, Kent Matthes picked up an RBI single into center to plate the first run. Charlie Cutler notched an RBI single into right before a Luke Hughes strikeout for the second out. Lance Zawadzki singled in a run, but an error by catcher Chris Wallace allowed Cutler to score from second, giving the Barnstormers a 4-0 advantage.

The Barnstormers added an additional run in the top of the third. Rivers singled to left to open the frame and advanced to second and third on wild pitches from Wright. Cutler reached after striking out on a wild pitch. Hughes lifted a sacrifice fly to left, giving Lancaster a 5-0 lead. Wright recorded his sixth-strikeout of the game to work around further trouble.

Sugar Land broke a 21-inning scoreless streak in the bottom of the fifth. Denny Almonte laced his team-leading fifth-triple of the season into left-center to lead off the inning before coming in to score on a groundout from Renny Osuna, narrowing the score to 5-1. Almonte's triple moved him into third-place in the Skeeters' single-season record.

Wright was tagged with his second-straight loss. The right-hander went 6.0 innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on five hits with a pair of walks and a season-high 10 strikeouts. The four-year member of the Skeeters fell to 5-4 following the setback.

Chad Beck of Lancaster baffled the Skeeters batters over the final four innings of work, earning the save. The right-hander scattered a pair of hits, but induced double plays on each of those hits to essentially retire the final 12 batters of the game.
