Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
WALDORF, Md. - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs dropped a decision to the Sugar Land Skeeters 10-2 today in a matinee game at Regency Furniture Stadium. The Blue Crabs bats were silenced by Skeeters starting pitcher Scott Elarton as he pitched a two-hitter, while only allowing one run and one walk in seven innings. Sugar Land's relief would then finish what Elarton started as Southern Maryland only managed two hits, one run and one walk in the last two innings. The Blue Crabs pitching staff struggled throughout the game, as four of five pitchers in the game tallied at least one run and allowed a season-high 18 hits in the loss.
The Blue Crabs would capitalize on just two opportunities today in the sixth and eighth inning. Shortstop Renny Osuna would score a run after walking with two outs, while right fielder Sean Smith would earn an RBI as he scored third baseman Brandon Jones on a fielder's choice. The Skeeters would slowly chip away at the score, adding at least one run in seven of nine innings. Sugar Land left fielder Steve Moss went 5-for-5 with four hits and three RBIs for the Skeeters, as shortstop Anthony Granato followed behind going 5-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
UP NEXT: The Blue Crabs will remain home Thursday for another 10:35 a.m. contest to complete a four-game home stand against Sugar Land, before heading on the road to face first-place Bridgeport in the first half of a six-game road trip.
