
Blue Crabs Beat Patriots 9-4

Bridgewater, NJ - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Somerset Patriots 9-4 before 6,913 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday evening.
The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a lead off solo home run by center fielder Sean Smith (6).
Southern Maryland answered with a run in the top of the second inning on a solo home run by center fielder Jeremy Owens (26) to tie up the game 1-1.
The Blue Crabs took a 7-1 lead with six runs in the top of the third inning. Shortstop Chuck Jeroloman and second baseman Trae Bailey drew walks and left fielder James Shanks followed with an RBI single to score Jeroloman. Designated hitter Michael Tucker drew a walk to load the bases and three straight RBI singles by first baseman Ken Harvey, Owens, and catcher Octavio Martinez gave the Blue Crabs a five run lead. Owens came home on a wild pitch to make it a six run game.
Somerset cut the lead to 7-4 with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Catcher Jason Belcher singled, third baseman Jeff Nettles singled, and second baseman Teuris Olivares singled to load the bases. First baseman Joe Burke followed with an RBI single to plate Belcher and Nettles scored on a double play. Right fielder Mike Rodriguez added an RBI single to plate Olivares.
The Blue Crabs extended the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Osborn singled, Harvey doubled, and Owens hit a two run double to make the score 9-4.
Blue Crabs starter Randy Keisler (1-0) picked up the win, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and five strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched. Patriots starter Clint Nageotte (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing seven earned runs on six hits in three innings pitched.
The 2009 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home with a 7:05 pm game against the Camden Riversharks on Friday night.
