Riversharks Defeated by Long Island Ducks, 2-1

The Camden Riversharks were defeated by Long Island Ducks tonight, by a final score of 2-1. Camden starter Kevin Mannix (2-2) suffered the loss, despite a strong outing that saw him pitch 7.1 innings, scattering 6 hits and only giving up 2 runs. Long Island's Randy Leek (8-9) picked up the win, as he gave up only 1 run on 9 hits in 6 innings of work. With the loss, the Riversharks' season tally falls to 20-26, while Long Island's improves to 23-23.

Long Island drew first blood as they took the lead in the 2nd inning. With one out and runners on the corners, catcher Rob Sandora grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Jose Herrera and giving the Ducks a 1-0 lead.

Long Island would add to their lead in the 3rd inning, and take a 2-0 lead. With one out and a runner in scoring position, former Rivershark David Housel lined a base hit to center field, plating Eduin Delgado.

The Sharks cracked the scoreboard in the 4th inning, and cut their deficit to one run. Left fielder Garrett Guzman grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed Brett Bonvechio to score from third base, and made the score 2-1.

With a one run lead heading into the final inning, the Ducks put the ball in the hands of closer Bill Simas, who retired the side and picked up his 22nd save of the year.

Next up, the Riversharks will hit the road for a three game series against the Somerset Patriots. They will then return home to Campbell's Field on Monday, August 31st to take on the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Limited seating for the game is still available.
