Blue Bombers Announce Guest Coaches for 2012 Training Camp

WINNIPEG, MB - Head Coach Paul LaPolice has announced his list of experienced guest coaches who will assist the Blue Bomber coaching staff during the 2012 training camp. Former CFL players, Donnovan Carter, Glen Young and Bob Cameron as well as American college coaches Steve Hladio and Joe Loth will be on hand when training camp opens on Sunday, June 3rd.

Donnovan Carter was drafted in the first round (4th overall) in 2000 by the Toronto Argonauts and enjoyed a seven-year career with the Argonauts, Ottawa Renegades and Hamilton Tiger-Cats before finishing his career in 2006 with the Blue Bombers. Carter racked up 319 tackles during his career along with eight sacks, seven interceptions, 10 fumble recoveries and two defensive touchdowns. In 2011, Carter was hired by the University of Toronto to become their Defensive Coordinator and will continue in that post this season. The Northern Illinois graduate, who played both linebacker and safety in the CFL, will help coach the defensive backs at this year's training camp.

Glen Young retired from the CFL in 2005 following an eight-year career with the Edmonton Eskimos, Montreal Alouettes and Toronto Argonauts. After being drafted by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1992, Young spent the next five seasons in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams, Buffalo Bills, San Diego Chargers and Seattle Seahawks before embarking on his CFL career that saw him record 202 defensive tackles, 60 special teams tackles, seven sacks, four interceptions and eight fumble recoveries. Young will be working with the linebackers during training camp as well as helping out with the special teams units.

Bob Cameron is the CFL's all-time leading punter after amassing 134,301 yards in 23 seasons with the Blue Bombers. A four-time CFL All-Star, Cameron won three Grey Cup championships and was named the Most Valuable Canadian in the 1988 Grey Cup. The CFL record holder for consecutive games played with 353, Cameron will help out the kickers and punters for the third consecutive season during training camp.

Steve Hladio is in his second season as an assistant coach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and will bring his offensive line expertise to Winnipeg for training camp, having coached the position at the University of Cincinnati and Boston College, both as a graduate assistant. Hladio has also had coaching stints at a collegiate level at Harvard University, the University of Albany and Florida International and has worked professionally in the Arena Football League and as a training camp coordinator with the NFL's New York Giants.

Joe Loth returns to Winnipeg for his third consecutive training camp and will work closely with the quarterbacks. Having just recently been named the Head Coach of Western Connecticut State University, Loth spent the past nine years as the Head Coach of Otterbein College. Prior to his time at Otterbein, Loth the Head Coach of Kean University, and in 2002, he led his team to their best record of the past eight years. A three-year starter at defensive back for Otterbein during his playing career, Loth earned second team All-OAC honours in his senior year and still holds the school-record of 13 career interceptions. Loth began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Southern Methodist University before becoming the defensive coordinator at Western Connecticut State University and Capital University. He also spent time coaching the secondary at the University of Rhode Island and was a guest coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2009.
