Lexington County Blowfish News Release
Brison Celek singled down the left field line with two outs to score Zach Smith in the bottom of the seventh to give the Columbia Blowfish a 5-4 walk off victory over the Florence RedWolves in the second game of Friday's double header. It was the second time the Blowfish have walked off on the RedWolves this season.
After the RedWolves (4-6, 19-19) took game one 14-2 their offense seemed to pick up right where it left off in the first inning of game two. Jake Long allowed the first two batters to reach before Adam Matthews took one over the right-center field fence to give the Wolves an early 3-0 lead.
The Blowfish (4-9, 13-28) got two back in the third. Carlos Santana doubled home Demontez Jones and then scored on a Tyler Jackson single. Joe Jackson singled home Greg Harrison the next inning to tie the game.
The RedWolves jumped back in front in the sixth. Alex Brooks (3-1) came on to pitch for Columbia and allowed an RBI double to Chris Williams, scoring Matthews. Matthews went 2-for-2 on the day scoring two runs and driving in a pair.
All-Star Joe Jackson picked up his second RBI of the day on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning. Greg Harrison took a chance on a shallow fly ball to left. The throw was on line but Harrison was able to slide under the sweeping tag from catcher Jacob German to score the tying run.
The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Blowfish and split the double header. Zach Smith went 1-for-4 on the day, making him the first Coastal Plain League player with triple digit total bases in the 2011 season.
These teams square off again Saturday night in Florence before the All-Star Break starts Sunday. These teams face each other again coming out of the break at Capital City Stadium on Tuesday.
