Lexington County Blowfish News Release

The Columbia Blowfish (10-16; 19-35) gave up five runs through the first three innings and lost a 5-3 decision to the Forest City Owls (14-12; 30-23) Sunday night in the team's final home game this season at Capital City Stadium.

The Owls jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Blowfish starting pitcher Austin Pitcher gave up three singles to the game's first three hitters. Pritcher followed with a bases-loaded walk to Craig Manuel.

The Owls scored again in the top of the second, as the first two batters of the inning reached on singles. Buddy Sosnoskie drove in Jordan Betts on a sacrifice fly to give Forest City a 2-0 lead.

The Blowfish fought back in the bottom of the second. Columbia loaded the bases on Owls' starting pitcher Jeremy Fant when Dedric Mingo hit a sacrifice fly to cut the Owls' lead to 2-1.

Forest City pulled away in the top of the third inning. Craig Manuel led off the inning with his first home run of the season. Two more runs would score in the inning on back-to-back RBI singles by Michael Basil and Sosnoskie, giving the Owls a 5-1 lead, and ending Pritcher's night early.

Pritcher (2-6) gave up five runs on 10 hits in just three innings.

The Blowfish cut into the Owls' lead in the fourth inning on a RBI single by Mingo, followed by a sacrifice fly by Carlos Santana, off Fant, but Forest City still led 5-3.

Fant (5-1) gave up three runs on five hits in five innings.

The Blowfish bullpen shined as Jake Long, Alex Brooks, and Chad Hodges combined for seven shutout innings, only allowing five batters to reach base, keeping Columbia in the game.

Ryan Tezak and Adam Izokovic pitched just as well in relief of Fant. Tezak gave up just one hit in three innings.

Izokovic picked up his tenth save of the season, despite a two-out walk to Santana in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Blowfish travel to Petersburg, Va. to play the Generals tomorrow. The Owls begin a home-and-home series with the Gastonia Grizzlies in Forest City, N.C., to wrap up the season.
