Blowfish Beat Redwolves, Remain in Playoff Hunt

COLUMBIA, S.C.- The Columbia Blowfish topped the Florence RedWolves 4-2 Friday night at Historic Capital City Stadium. The win keeps the Blowfish in the hunt for a top four playoff seed for the first time ever.

The RedWolves got on the board in the top of the first getting two runs off of Blowfish starter Wyatt Brown. Brown five and two thirds giving up two runs on eight hits while not recording a strikeout. Brown also got the win on the night.

The Blowfish answered the two runs with a single run in the fourth when Tre-Von Johnshon led off the inning with a solo homerun to left centerfield. The Blowfish then took the lead with two runs in the fifth when Johnson reached on an error to score Michael Wilson. Joshua Miller then got hit by a pitch to score Jarrod Reed to give the Blowfish a 3-2 lead. The Blowfish scored their fourth and final run in the sixth on a Federico Castagnini sacrifice fly to center to score Zach Smith.

The Blowfish got great pitching from the bullpen Friday night. Jeff Kinley pitched an inning and a third giving up just one hit. Adam Albers then pitched a perfect eighth recording a strikeout. Joshua Knab pitched the ninth to get the save for the Blowfish giving up two hits while striking out two.

The Blowfish are home again Saturday night as they host the Gastonia Grizzlies at 7:05. Tickets are available at blowfishbaseball.com or by calling 254-FISH.

The Columbia Blowfish are in their seventh season at Historic Capital City Stadium and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
