Blomqvist Reassigned to IceMen
January 14, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons announced on Monday that defenseman Anton Blomqvist has been reassigned from the club by its NHL affiliate, the Columbus Blue Jackets, to its ECHL developmental team, the Evansville IceMen.
Blomqvist joined Springfield from Evansville on Thursday but did not dress for either of the Falcons' two contests on the weekend. The second-year pro has two assists in 20 games with Evansville this season. A native of Kristianstad, Sweden, Blomqvist saw action in only 24 games in his rookie campaign of 2011-2012 with Springfield due to injury, posting 19 penalty minutes with no points. Blomqvist made his debut with Springfield at the end of the 2010-2011 season, registering his first AHL assist on Apr. 9 against Providence.
The 22-year-old was selected in the sixth round (167th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by Columbus. He is in the second season of his three-year NHL entry-level contract with the Blue Jackets.
The Falcons, who lead the Northeast Division by six points with three games in hand over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, battle the Monarchs in Manchester on Tuesday before returning home to host the Connecticut Whale on Friday and the Albany Devils on Saturday at the MassMutual Center. Springfield defeated the Providence Bruins in its most recent home contest on Saturday, 4-2, in front of a season-high crowd of 6,497 fans at The Nest.
Falcons fans and Big Y customers can save $5 off a full-priced adult ticket by presenting their Big Y Card at the MassMutual Center Box Office now through two hours prior to the start of Friday's game as part of "Big Y Night." Youth and other discounted tickets are not eligible for this promotion. Fans in attendance on Friday will also have the opportunity to win a brand new, high-definition television courtesy of Manny's TV & Appliances (MannysTV.com) as part of "Flat-Screen Friday."
On Saturday, Wally the Green Monster and Screech will pick the winner of the "AAA Spring Training Getaway" during the first intermission of "Red Sox Night presented by AAA Travel." Five finalists were selected from entries through the five AAA Pioneer Valley locations and through AAA.com/Promo to win a three-day, two-night trip to Fort Myers. The grand prize includes two round-trip airline tickets, a two-night hotel stay, and two tickets to two Red Sox spring training games. The Pawtucket Red Sox and their mascot, Paws, will be displaying their Governors' Cup in the concourse as part of their 2012 International League championship celebration.
