January 14, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans announced today that the Amerks will hold a "Hometown Heroes Day" on Monday, Jan. 21 as the team hosts the Hamilton Bulldogs in a 1:05 p.m. game at The Blue Cross Arena. The Amerks are honoring all first responders such as police officers, fire fighters, and emergency medical technicians. Following the Amerks-Bulldogs game, the Rochester Police Department will face-off with the Rochester Fire Department in an exhibition hockey game.
[WWFD jersey patch.JPG]To honor the victims and those affected by the tragic shootings that took place in Webster, N.Y. on Dec. 24, the Amerks will wear a West Webster Fire Department patch on their jerseys during the game against Hamilton. The jerseys will then be auctioned off online, with the proceeds going to the West Webster Fire Department.
The Rochester Police Foundation will also be on hand throughout the day to raise funds and awareness for its cause. The Rochester Police Foundation was formed in 2012 to foster public safety, excellence in law enforcement, and a positive relationship between RPD and the community it serves. Dedicated in partnership with RPD, the Rochester Police Foundation works with a range of business and civic leaders, and community safety advocates on public safety initiatives, community and youth outreach programs, and crime prevention programs.
At the conclusion of the game between the Amerks and Bulldogs, all fans are invited to stay and watch the exhibition game between the Rochester Police Department and Rochester Fire Department. Members of the Amerks Alumni Association, including Jody Gage, Scott Metcalfe, Rory Fitzpatrick, Jim Wiemer, Ray Maluta, Brian McKinnon, Daryl Drader, Steve Langdon and Ken Soble will suit up for the teams as well.
The Amerks are also offering all First Responders a complimentary ticket to the Hometown Heroes Game. In addition to the complimentary ticket, First Responders can purchase additional tickets for their family and friends for just $15.
