Green Bay Blizzard News Release
Game Wrap: Green Bay 50, Central Valley 32
Coyote turned out to be just what the Blizzard was hungry for. After three straight losses, Green Bay (2-3) blew through Central Valley (0-5) and thrilled a hometown crowd of 3,872 at the Resch Center. Quarterback Chris Greisen and offensive specialist Randall Lane connected for three touchdown passes and showed once again why they used to call the NFL home â but this victory was more than just a two-man show. The whole team decided to show up with an attitude and effort came from every direction.
Joe Rivard, who put the Blizzard on the board first with a 4-yard run, rolled a little rushing, receiving and tackling into the U.S. Army Ironman of the Game award. DeRonn Finely chipped in 30 yards receiving with one touchdown, 61 yards on two kick-off returns, three tackles and an interception. Robert Garth was good for one touchdown and three tackles, and defensive linemen Ronnie Washburn and Rocco Foggio kept Coyotes quarterback Wes Phillips scrambling for his life most of the evening.
Arena Football Rules & Strategy: The Media-Voted Awards
Arena Football has three game awards that are voted on by media members who are observing the game from the press row area â mainly newspaper and radio people. Ballots are handed out prior to the start of the game and collected with about five minutes left in the fourth quarter. The awards are: Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game; U.S. Army Ironman of the Game (given to a two-way player who has the best overall performance on both sides of the ball); and ADT Defensive Player of the Game. Last week Blizzard quarterback Chris Greisen won the offensive award and fullback/linebacker Joe Rivard won the Ironman award.
Next Up: Blizzard (2-3) vs. Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (4-1), Friday, May 14
Green Bay takes on Oklahoma City Friday, May 14, 7:30 pm at the Resch Center. The Yard Dawgz are a first-year team, aligned in the National Conference Southwest Division and coached by Gary Reasons. One of the team's co-operators is former Dallas Cowboys head coach Barry Switzer. Thunderstix will be given out at the gate, so let's create a storm of noise to send the Dawgz to the pound!
Also, former Green Bay Packer defensive back LeRoy Butler will be honorary captain for the game and will be signing his book The LeRoy Butler Story: From Wheelchair to the Lambeau Leap. Books will be available for purchase at the game. For more information, contact the Blizzard office at (920) 405-1264.
See you at the Resch Center Friday night!
