July 29, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Oklahoma City Blazers News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. â The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed CHL All-Star defenseman Tyler Fleck, head coach Doug Sauter announced today.
Fleck, a 5-10, 200-pound native of Carlyle, Sask. is entering his fifth full season as a professional. Last season, he recorded 22 points (2-20-22) and served 90 penalty minutes in 61 games played. In 249 games as a professional, all with Oklahoma City, he has recorded 75 points (13-62-75) and served 628 penalty minutes.
Last season was a breakout season for Fleck. He established a new career high in assists with 20, tied a personal high with 22 points, served a career-low 90 penalty minutes while being named to the CHL All-Star Team for the first time.
Entering the 04-05 campaign, Fleck ranks in the top eight in four different categories on the Blazers' all-time list. He ranks eighth in games played (249), seventh in major penalties (34), sixth in penalty minutes (628), and fifth in minor penalties (179).
"Tyler has improved each year he has been here," said Sauter. "Last season was his best season yet and he was rewarded by being named to the CHL All-Star Team. His leadership abilities also improved tremendously last season, which makes him a perfect candidate to be captain of the Blazers for the coming year. I feel I can communicate well with Tyler and he will be a great representative of the team."
"I'm excited to be back," said Fleck. "This will be a season of new challenges and a new attitude for the team. We have a lot to prove to everybody this season. I'm honored that Doug has chosen me to be captain. I've been a captain of every team that I have played for. As captain, I'm just going to be me, that's what got me here."
The addition of Fleck brings the number of players signed by the Blazers for the 04-05 season to 10.
Oklahoma City opens the 2004-05 season at home against the Colorado Eagles on October 22 at 7:35 p.m.
NOTE: For the first time ever, the Blazers are offering a "Friday Night Special."
