Saints Announce 2004-05 Schedule
July 29, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
San Angelo Saints News Release
San Angelo, TXâThe San Angelo Saints officially released the 2004-05 season schedule today, which features thirty home games at the San Angelo Coliseum. The home opener is set for Friday, October 22nd against the defending CHL Champions, the Laredo Bucks. Old rivalries continue, while new foes are expected to grow as teams come to San Angelo battling for the Southwest Division Title.
When teams select dates for the upcoming season, it is crucial to develop a winning combination of home and travel dates. Saints Head Coach/Assistant General Manager Ray Edwards has accomplished just that for this season's schedule.
"This schedule is much more balanced than what we have seen in the past. The travel isn't as bad; our longest trip is three days compared to seven last year. That is crucial for keeping a healthy team. When you are on the road, bouncing around in a bus, it is hard to keep rested," said Edwards.
The Southwest Division heats up in 2004-05 with Amarillo, Lubbock and Odessa battling the San Angelo Saints for the division title. The reigning champions take on their rival, the Odessa Jackalopes, five times on home ice, and another five times at the Jack Shack. Fans can expect a more intense contest with the Lubbock Cotton Kings, who will also split ten games with the Saints. After Amarillo eliminated the Saints from the playoffs in game five of the first round, there is no doubt that a new rivalry has been born.
"There is no question that there will be a rivalry with Amarillo," says Edwards. "That is how rivalries get started, and after the playoff series last year, it should be intense. Our division will be a tough one. Everyone will be out to knock us off as division champions."
Saints fans can expect to see game after game of pure hockey with 100% action. The season opens with the championship Laredo Bucks and should prove to be a high-energy game. "It's a huge challenge," says Edwards. "To open the season against the league champs will be great motivation for our guys. What better motivation could you ask for?"
Highlights of the Saints home schedule include the day after Thanksgiving, November 26th, against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Fans can celebrate the New Year as the Saints take on the Jackalopes on January 1, 2005. Twenty of the thirty home games scheduled for the 2004-05 season will be on Friday and Saturday nights. There are only five Tuesday night games, four Sunday games and one Wednesday date.
